Location and atmosphere
Set in the Beira Interior region, close to the Spanish border, Quinta do Cardo is one of Portugal’s most historic wine estates. Lying beneath the Marofa Mountain and the historic plateau of Castelo Rodrigo, and flanked by the rivers Douro, Côa and Águeda, this region offers a rare sense of elevation and quiet.
This is a place to breathe deeper, feel closer to the land, and experience the authenticity of high-altitude winemaking.
The property and the concept
With its century-old vineyards and fully organic production, Quinta do Cardo blends tradition with ecological responsibility.
Currently transforming, the estate will soon welcome guests to a new kind of wine retreat – one where families, couples, and wine lovers alike can explore the beauty of the region, while staying in comfort.
The future vision includes a boutique hotel with 30 to 40 accommodation units, event spaces, and immersive nature experiences.
